Gayla is bringing home an 8 yo neutered male Peake from the Vet Clinic today.

His owner has suffered several strokes and can no longer care for him.

The dog has been a client since a pup and as far as we know has no health issues. He has never hunted.

I will have him home with me for a while to evaluate him.

Phil,
Thanks to you and Gayla for taking this dog in! I'm a volunteer with Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue. On our website, we have a page where folks can list dogs for private adoption. These dogs are not CBRR&R dogs, but dogs in the hands of owners/shelters that wish to advertise and place the dogs themselves. The only requirement is that the dogs listed are spayed/neutered and that they are not being sold. This is a very successful advertising spot because the audience is limited to those folks who wish to rescue a Chesapeake. It helps to write a very descriptive listing (once you evaluate the dog) and then you can send a nice digital photo to me and I will post it on the listing for you. If you need any other assistance from me, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks again for not hesitating to help a dog in need.

Thanks, guys.....Cody spent the weekend here with us..

He's a good ole guy.... House broke, garbage broke, furniture broke, and good with other dogs.

It took him about an hour to warm up to us.... after that we got the old wookie howl and only half-a-grin. He's a left side smiler!

He even waited for our ruler of all dogs at Red earth (at least she thinks so!), Our jack russel, to finish eating before he attempted to get a bite in!

I took food from him with no repercussions.

I wrestled with him repetitively, he never closed his mouth on me once. He did get in a few left jabs though!

Every duck hunter that showed up Saturday morning was met with the same howl and smile greeting in the living room.

He's about 20 pounds over weight but a handsome fella!

I don't know how long I can keep him here... New pup coming this week, and I would hate to have an inside dog put out in the kennel in the cold we are having.

He will be spending the holidays with us....I got pretty attached this weekend.... who knows after the next two weeks!

Pictures to follow!

The owners daughter wanted to try caring for both her very ill mother and ole Cody.

That lasted three days.... Cody was returned to the Vet Clinic to be put down. Papers were signed making him property of the clinic.

I'm happy to say.... After hearing our thoughts on the dog and that he could live with us, ole Cody bear went to one of Gayla's colleagues ranch. He will have 2 young boys to wrestle with, ponds to chase birds in and a great life to lead!
