Update 1/14/2009: Received from Robin via email this morning: 1/14/2009....

We had a hunch about Craine, so we contacted the Dept. of Corrections. They came to the shelter yesterday, and tested him. Since he is so crazy for tennis balls, and focused on them, even with distractions present, they have taken him into their program. He will go through extensive training, and if all goes well, he will become a drug, or bomb sniffing dog. If, for some reason he does not make the grade, they will adopt him out. It's a great program, and hopefully he will be out there soon, saving lives, and be happy doing it!
Thanks for your help.

Photos added 1/10/09-& Update email I received from Robin:

"Here are the pictures from his Petfinder profile. Hope this helps. In the second picture he is totally focused on tennis ball I was about to throw. We had birds, cat, and guinea pigs, in the room, and he never wavered from wanting that ball!"

Previous email received from Robin 1/8/09:

Hi,
I'm hoping you could steer me in the right direction. I work at the Lewis County Animal Shelter in Chehalis. We have a 1 year old purebred Chessy, and we are hoping to find a rescue for him. He is a gorgeous dog, full of energy, eager to please, and CRAZY for tennis balls! A 60 year old man brought him in, after realizing he was way to much dog for him. He did say he is papered, and if he goes to a rescue, we can probably get the papers for him. Craine is very intelligent, and so far hasn't shown to much of the stubborn trait, just happy for attention and someone to play ball with. I should have pictures of him tomorrow or Friday, and he is posted on Petfinder.com under our shelter. He really is a great dog, and since we can't screen homes, I want to make sure he gets into one that knows the breed, and doesn't want to adopt him just because he is a "purebred". We are surrounded by water at the moment, and with I-5 closed for 20 miles, it might be a few days before anyone could come take a look at him. I tried the Spdr website, but they had know contacts listed for his breed. Our shelter may end up being closed for a couple days, but we do have voice mail and e-mail if you can get back to me. Adoption fee at our shelter is only $65, and it is mandatory that they be neutered. That is included in the fee, so it is quite the bargain, since this guy looks like he weighs over 90 lbs! Thanks for any help you can give us.

Tim......I recently received the email below from Robin about Craine when I too inquired about how he was doing: Smile

"We never heard how things went with him. If they don't work out for their program, they have a waiting list for adopters, since the dogs have been well trained otherwise. So either Craine is happilly looking for drugs or bombs, or he is a well trained dog in a nice family! Thanks for checking". Robin

Norene, Thanks for the update another happy ending for a rescued Bay Dog. Thanks again to all the folks whom are willing and able to foster rescues. I remember them each year with a contribution to the ACC Trust Fund. You can do this when renewing the club dues.
