Upland and waterfowl season is ongoing in the great state of New Jersey. I use a BPS 10 for the big marshes and a Side by Side Savage 12 for wooded ponds. I’ve always had some really fine meat dogs, but Tiger has come to be the best of the meat dogs. Most of the duck retrieves this year are no longer then 10 yards and the goose retrieves are about 20 yard. When many birds are down, Tiger keeps bringing them back. He seems to know where the falls are. We have not lost a bird yet! I have not had to do a 400 yard blind or retrieve. So much for [FT] what you would find in a days hunt. As for pheasants, Tiger is excellent. He stays in range for a BSS 20 and seems to find theses birds where other bird dogs have problems. He’s flushed three rabbits and two squirrels. Yesterday a fellow upland hunter asked me what kind of breed Tiger was. Chesapeake Bay retriever I said. Hunting Pheasants? He remarked!

A good meat dog will hunt anything in the marsh, woods or fields.

Sounds like your having a good hunting season. My pheasant hunting is okay but I'm a sh_tty shot. I think my chessie is going to take my gun away and shoot them himself. Haven't done any duck hunting but the season is still early.
Haven't seen many people use a side by side. Post a picture of it. I'm looking for a new shot gun but not sure what kind.

Our Duck season is finally picking up, we have a major shortage of water in the area's I usually hunt so I have had to call in some markers and cross over the Mississippi River to hunt with some friends in flooded timber and rice fields. I have a son of Decks, just about the only Chessie in my area at HT and for sure with the guys I hunt with. He is an outstanding hand warmer and occasionally he pulls his own weight when it comes to retrieving. He picked up 26 ducks and 6 geese today and we are going back after them tommorow. I would post pic's but I dropped the @#$5#@$$ camera in the water and ruined it. Hope Santa buys me a new one.
