Talked to my farmer today and looks like in the next week or so I will spending a few days a month at my lease. Here in the South the end of June is hot, July is even hotter and August we start talking about Football.
Last week of June I start planting Corn, Japanese Millet in our brake, no matter how hot it is I always see those greenheads falling into those timber holes while sitting on a tractor swatting deerflys. Don't know about you guys, but I am ready for winter, low skys and a little sleet with the wind out of the northwest about 8 to 9 miles an hour. Nothing finer than seeing a flock of red-leg Mallards cup and lock about a mile out committed to a little standing corn. I can see it now, its the only thing that gets me through the summer months. Haven't gotten the decoys out yet, but three or four months ago I did buy me a new toy. Bought a used gator trax boat with a longtail motor. Something Rick H. would appreciate. Actually I am getting pretty excited about the dove season opener. We usually have alot of birds within a few minutes from my house.

Planning on winning the raffle at the specialty and using my new Benneli (Black Eagle).

Then you're gonna be kickin' yourself for not getting off your wallet sooner. And, Greg, I'm afraid I'm not much of a boat student anymore, but I hope that Gator Trax works out great for you! (Must be getting really old, 'cause there still seems too much Summer in the way of my getting fired up for next season.) ______________________________________________________________________________________________ If you think I'm wrong, you might be right. Your not getting older just wiser, it is hard for me not to see the birds working the holes while driving the tractor. Only thing that keeps me doing it. As my wife said along time ago, "A smart man would have a hobby that was cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Not the opposit", all that being said she is still married to her "Smart Man" Paul Ok you gotta do better than 80-90 km for this Southern Boy, km is a girls name down here. I have a hard time seeing a km moving nocturnal black ducks aroudn. I can however see a black km that is 8 or 9. Mike I do hope you win the raffle, if you do then why don't you bring it down here and see if you can kill a Mallard or two in one of my timber holes. Marty |

Let me know if you want to make a trip this way, believe it or not. I usuallly hunt by myself about 75% of the time. My son is in school so the only time I have someone to share the day with is Fri. and Sat. I know your work will effect when you can come but, when they post waterfowl dates I will let you know. Then maybe you can head this way. The only thing we will have to worry about is if the ducks are here. Ducks in the Delta depend so much on how weather is in Wisc, Minn, Ill and Mo.it isn't even funny. If they have a rough early winter (it has only happend once in the last 4 years), we really put a pounding on the Mallards, Gadwalls and Pintails early in the season. But if the weather is mild up there meaning no ground cover, then it takes until after Christmas to Mid-Jan. for our hunting to pick up. Any way keep it in mind you and anyone else intrested in coming this way is more thatn welcome. The only rule is you have to bring your dog. When I take a guest I don't work a dog, so you will have to bring Murray or Larry. That goes for the rest of you to. Marty |

No problem. I'll probably use Larry. Though Murray is much better to hunt with but he is getting old. He has the look just doesn't have the gas anymore.

Mary gets mad when I jack her SBE! Never get the wife a better gun then you have. For fathers day fired up the jet boat and went fishing with my hunting buddy and his 10 year old daughter (who caught all the fish, herself. All I could think of was what a great island here and nice oxbow there to set up decoys on and wait for the ducks and geese! Sigh!!!
