Saturday hunting geese with Don, John, Dave and Mike [all FT people] on Reeds sod farm Driggers set up in a stack of sod pallets. It was really cold, but dry. I figured at 3 birds each we could kill 15 geese. Tiger was primed and was ready to go. One thing nice about a dog is when your hands get cold you can warm them up under the front arm pits. My hands got cold and Tiger was the trick. Truly a dual purpose dog, hand warmer and retriever. A lot of birds were flying, but not one into the spread. No birds today.
Monday while hunting in Glassboro WMA Tiger and I were hunting a field for pheasants. This field had been heavenly hunted for two days without being restocked. I knew we could find a few birds because a lot of hunters hunt without dogs or dogs that don’t really hunt that well. Tiger was making game about 10 feet into a field next to a path. He was about 15 yards in front of me down wind. Tiger pops out of the field and spots a hen bird at the corner of the field and takes off. Bumps a hen bird out of range. I missed this event because it happened so fast. Called him back and started down a fire path in the direction of the hen hopeing to get on the bird again. About forty yards down the path he starts making game again. This time I was ready. Tiger flushes the hen again, One shot with my 20. Hit the bird and it fell out of site in heavy woods. Tiger retrieved the hen and delivered to hand. What a dog. No hunting tomorrow. Off to Melissa’s to get Tiger collected. What a show that is!!!
