Hey everyone,
In my endeavor to learn all I can about these creatures I have yet to find an answer as to how young is too young to expose a dog to gunfire such as a .22? As always, thanks in advance. Jamie |

I don't think there is an age too young - it just depends on how far away the gun is from the dog/pup. Work from quite a distance out at first - more than 100 feet - and over a few days gradually decrease the distance until you are about 25 feet away. Remember a .22 carries a different report than a shotgun so it's important to really watch the pup to see how he responds as you get closer.

Great advise K,
The only thing I would add is--start by BANGING THE POTS/CABINET DOORS in the kitchen when feeding puppy--"the dinner bell", if you will. Then replace that racket with the blank shots outside {like K suggested], then walk over and put their dinner bowl down in front of them. I'd hold-off on the shots a little longer with a spooky pup. Happy Hunting! Bruce |
