Howdy all. As an eager, soon-to-be, newbie owner, I appreciate all the info this board and its members provide. Out of respect to those who ceaselessly answer questions from folks like myself, I'm asking for a quick nudge in the right direction for reading/viewing resources (other than Lardy) on the correct use of e-collars. Thanks!

There are several books and tapes out there, I'm not sure what's the best. I used Tritronics retriever training by Jim and Phyllis Dobbs. The book helped me alot. Dusty is my first retriever and he's doing real well. Good luck with your pup.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for asking!

I have no grand plans for the pup. I live and hunt out here in colorado. We'll hunt the waterfowl season pretty hard and mix in some Blue Grouse walks. 90% of the time, I'm hunting rivers and marsh potholes. I'd like pup to be a solid multiple mark dog, and if I can handle the training, be able to handle the blinds as well. In the off-season, she'll be a partner in hiking, fishing, camping, back-country skiing, etc.

I ask about e-collar info because I am not yet sure if I need to make the investment if it will not be a great benifit to our experience.

Butch Goodwin's book/cd covers pros and cons, has a lot of info.

Check it out at www.northernflight.com

Best with the new pup

Geoff,

Here is some information I just received in the mail yesterday that may be of interest to you and is in your backyard.

Colorado Women's RC presents: 5/1/04 & 5/2/04

FIELD USE OF THE ELECTRONIC COLLAR
Presented by Kenny Trott & Cherylon Loveland

Location: Eileen Jaskowski's property 2905 W County Rd. 14, Loveland, CO.

Questions, registration, etc. call Sandy Whicker 970-482-9371; Missy Goettl 970-482-1563.

All of the above mentioned folks have lots of years with all aspects of retriever field activities and are very, very knowledgeable.

Geoff;

If you can make the seminar, beg, steal, or borrow (even from your in-laws!) the money to attend. Those are two of the best young-dog trainers anywhere. You will get lots of insights.
