The trainer has had our pup for 3 weeks now and paid us a good compliment(I think). She said that Rita is doing great and likes her so much that she won't let any other dogs near her when they are together. Protective little girl my Rita.
Has any one of you more experienced folks seen this in a young dog ? Thank You in advance Kent |

It does happen occasionaly, more often than not with bitches than males. I had a BLF bond so tight to me that I really had a hard time getting her to work with her owner. The owner was partly at fault, she never came around to train and it made it all the harder to transfer the training form me to him. In my opinion it is not a bad thing to have happen especilly if you are planning to leave her with the pro for an extended period of time. Just be sure that you spend plenty of time with the pro and be involved in her training. Good Luck with her Marty |

Thanks Marty !
This is the first time I have expereienced this and was just wondering if anyone else has seen this in a young dog before. Actually our trainer is very pleased with her after only three weeks and is moving on to FF. I am close to her and will be taking my place in the process very soon . This is the reason I had to search for trainers close to home . I wanted to do the right thing. It also gives me some quality time with my male . Today we worked on some lining drills and finished with a nice water blind. I am very pleased that he is maturing and getting in a groove so to speak. Thank you very much for your input. It is exactly what I was looking for . Kent |

I'm no dog pro, but I spend enough time in mixed-companies of dogs that such a level of possessiveness sure looks like pending problems to me. A potential fight starter I'd want to nip in the bud. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ If you think I'm wrong, you might be right. Thanks Rick .
That's why we have her with a Pro. This dog is well socialized and for the year preceeding formal training has been in the show ring training with other dogs and handled by a 10 year old little girl. Though I appreciate your opinion and will keep it in mind . Kent PS We finished the season with 198 ducks and 76 geese. How was your season ?. Next year possibly you can come our way for a shoot ? |

Appreciate the invite, Kent, but I'm pretty much married to the lodge here mid Sept through early Feb. (Been trying to sneak off to hunt some timber mallards with Ark friends for years without success.)
Thanks to heavy early snows in the North, our duck season got off to an appreciably better start than the past few, but as the North then warmed, our duck gunning cooled. Took a dive after the first of the year, and geese were all that remained strong throughout. Nothing like 2000-01 and the several seasons before, numbers-wise, but we had a lot of fun. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ If you think I'm wrong, you might be right. I hear you Rick. It's like tax time for accountants LOL.
I am picking up my pup for a few days while my trainers go to Europe for a Field Trial. I sure wish I could go just to watch. Maybe some day ehh. Back to putting away decoys . I tell ya this is getting old fast. Kent |
