We brought our new pup home on Friday and the two labs we own 5 & 2 were a little apprehensive with her. On Saturday the 2yr started to warm up to her and actually started to play with her some. This morning he stared her down and acted like he didn't want her to bother him. He hasn't bit her just growled and flipped her back with his nose and walks off. The 5yr just walks away and has nothing to do with her. I'll be glad when she sleeps thru the night. She whines and I get up and talk her outside and she does her thing then I put her back in the crate and she goes back to sleep.

My son brought his new female pup home Friday evening. Fri and Sat rough nights. slept through the night since then. I have a 5 yo female that was not impressed with the new addition. Finally Monday evening she showed signs of playing with the pup. Last night (Tues) the 2 of them tore up the house playing with each other!!

Jim and MD. It sounds like 'situation normal' with a new pup in the house. But, don't forget that in the dog world puppies are tolerated much more than when they are adults.
Be alert for signs of problems when you pup approaches social maturity starting at about 12-15 months of age. The rules change dramatically, but the early warning signs are there early on if you're alert to them. Snick "My guess is there were 'Chessie' on the Ark. Somebody had to gaurd the boat!" |
