Everyone is welcome. It would be nice if Kaie wasn't the only Chessie in attendance this year. I hear rumor that someone from Washington who has a truck load of Chessies may be asked to judge.....humm??? wonder who that might be???? At least it would level the playing field......Non-club members are welcome....

Dear WRC Members,

The Washington Retriever Club is planning two picnic trials coming up very soon. The dates and locations are as follows:

Feb 21/22 - Cherry Valley Wildlife Recreation Area (outside of DuVall) March 7/8 - Greenleaf's (Monroe)

We are still hoping to get our permit for Ft Lewis renewed, but the request is hung up somewhere along the way and no amount of calling and coaxing appears to help get things moving.

For those people that paid their membership last year, we will not be requiring them to pay this year.

Please spread the word to your friends. We will be putting on the same stakes as in the past:

Saturday:
Puppies/Jr Hunter - (Puppies under 1 year; no age requirement for Jr Hunter) Tests will be single marks, same test for both stakes. Puppies will only be judged against other puppies and likewise for Jr Hunter dogs.

Qual/Master Hunter - Marks will be doubles and/or triples and blinds will be run. Qual dogs will be judged against each other and same for Master Hunter dogs.

Sunday:
Derby/Sr Hunter - (Derby dogs under 2 yrs old; no age requirement for Sr Hunter) Marks will be singles and/or doubles. No blinds will be run.

Open - No separation between field trial and hunt test dogs. All entries will compete against each other.

More information will be sent when details get confirmed.

Hope to see all of you soon.

Feb 21-22 is Cherry Valley- It is between Duvall and Monroe. Bring your dogs, don't be shy about it. There is a class to enter for all ages and experience levels.

March 7-8 is at Dr. Greenleafs which is in Monroe, WA.(my hometown)

You should make the trip over. It will be a really good time. You'll be able to see hunt test set-ups and a field trial test in the same weekend. The WRC club makes it a point to include everyone regardless of experience or age.(dogs and people)

Just bring a box of cookies or something to eat.

I don't think they have website. Directions are really easy to Cherry Valley. You'll be coming in from I-90 take Preston Exit to Fall City, Fall City to Carnation, Carnation to Duvall then upon leaving Duvall, it will be the first big field on the right that has a parking area and public access signs. If you get to Monroe you went too far.

If you decide to make it, bring your dog over PM me and I'll give you my cell in case you get lost or if you want to chat more about it. In the first post, Fran Segren's number is posted

I had posted Sand and Sage club but, they changed their hunt test from March to September to get more entries. Too bad Hunting Seasons start in September....Not sure that was a good move. I guess too many folks complain about putting their retrievers in cold water. September will be warm and Scootenia turns into one big swamp.

Open to all retrieving breeds. WRC has been around here for a very long time. Many folks have started out handling dogs at these picnic trials and gone onto field trials and hunt tests. It is always fun and a great atmosphere to learn about the great sport of retrievers.
I encourage everyone to attend. Here is the link to the website. washingtonretrieverclub.org/index.html

Thanks Juli.....
Well we are workin' hard on gettin' that QAA bitch!....I must be serious as I just purchased a $20 green monster whistle! Big Grin LOL

In her first time in any Q event, I couldn't be more pleased with my girl! I entered to see where we were at and if what I had been working on thru the winter was apparent in the 'real' thing.

Dancer's line manners were good, (LOL)which is something that I know I will always have to address with her....let's just say that her name suits her well!Big GrinLOL

She took excellent lines on her blinds, but I still need to work on her "sitting" and not taking off before I can complete the cast I am giving her. She has the same "I got, I got it-let me go" great attitude & speed on handling that she shows on marks and running blinds.

The judges were very complimentary as well as the gallery.....She was the only chessies in the "Q". One of the judge's commented that he loved watching a chessie that could really mark and that really enjoyed doing it's work! We all know there are many chessies like that, but if you make another person sit up and take notice, it's always a plus for our breed.

Dancer and I had fun!

I only got to see Dancer's blinds. I liked the way she ran. She looked like a dog eager and happy to be doing the work! The water blind was not easy, and Dancer looked terrific doing it!
