Today was raining off and on most of the day. The tests were kind of surprising. In the Amateur, they had a double with a 150 yard flyer left of some trees, and a key memory bird at 250. The terrain on the way to the memory bird kicked many dogs up the incline and on the wrong side of the gun. I didn't see them all, but I only saw/heard of a few that didn't backside the gun.

The Derby started with a pair of singles.

The Open had a meaty water blind, and only 11 dogs made it back for the marks. The fog came in with some rain and visibility was bad, so they had to pull the plug. So we still don't have results. I'm sure Gerard will be getting a call from Andy S. when we have placements.

My lack of handling skills was apparent from the beginning, but we got the poultry, and I guess the judges thought it was good enough to see us again. I honestly thought there was no way we were going to dig out that memory bird, as I had my dog lined up on the shorter flyer. I didn't think she even saw the dead bird. She was hard to read on the line, but when I called her name she seemed pretty positive. She established a hunt on the wrong side of the gun, but worked it out. I have to say I was pretty happy.

We've been having a lot of fun. Met Bill Burks, Keith Carlson, Scott Kurtz, the X-Man, and many others.

I have to say that the midwest crew has put on a great trial. A very big thanks to them for making it all happen. I haven't talked to Gary much, but Heidi is a class act.

We have pictures. Not much video was taken when we discovered that we wouldn't have broadband access, but Billy took some. Pictures will get loaded when we get home. (Whenever that will be.) We check out of this hotel tomorrow, and won't have internet access until ???

The East Coast Mafia is heading to St. Louis for the weekend trial. I'd kind of like to go, as I'm feeling the specialty magic right now. We'll see how things go....

Results for the "regular" stakes are posted. Pictures should follow soon. I have somewhere around 300 pictures.

Still waiting on the results from the puppy stakes.

The weather on Wednesday put the trial behind. The Open ran 7 dogs in the last series, but couldn't finish because the visibility was so poor. When the Sun came out on Thursday, the test had to be scrapped in fairness to the dogs that had run. (Bill Burks and Meg did the test before it got scrapped.)

Also, the Amateur was still working on the 2nd series. They didn't get done until after noon. The last series of the Amateur started about 5:20 PM, and finished in the nick of time. You can't cut it much closer than that. Ribbons were handed out in the dark.

Puppy stakes ran all day. Mostly hurry up and wait for the judges, as many handlers were still running in one or more stakes.

We left right after attempting to take some pictures of the Amateur placements. We had thought about staying another night in Pratt, but decided to try and get home instead.

I have now been up for 62 of the last 72 hours. Time to get some sleep.

P.S. Regretfully, none of the tickets drawn for the raffle were ones that I sold. The only person whose name I recognized on the raffle was John Nichols. He won the Bumper Boy.

Specialty Results

The link above should have the results listed. If you click on the stake above, it should give you callbacks by series.
