Hi Kent,

I have found a few dogs w/out Chip in the pedigree....I think there are quite a few out there...but you would be very hard pressed to find any dogs running field trials that did not have Chip in the pedigree....pretty interesting!

My last Chessies dam was from Chesdel Chief of Caroway
who was Chesdel Chippewa Chief x Fireweeds Jasmine.

You are right, most performance Chessies can be tracked to Chesdel who is directly decended from Dr. Lundy's breedings of Atom Bomb, Big Fellow and Surf.

Take a look at performance Chessie lines and attempt to exclude Atom Bomb.

Would be a whoooole lot harder to find a performance Chessie with "Atom Bomb" behind it than not. "Atom Bob," on the other hand...

Just pickin'.

"Chip" was obviously bred a lot for the times and produced many nice field trial Peakes. He was most potent when coupled with females out of "Surf." However, there was a tendency for him to throw "softer" dogs for those early times of the collar. A number of these offspring most likely would have fared better with "modern" technology. Looking back, I know I would have changed a number of training techniques for my male out of "Chip" x "Tuley" born in '81. He was a small, fast, stylish and extremely birdy guy who only ran a few trials but was a wonderful gundog. Most importantly, he introduced me to Bill & Jackie Lauenroth who were very talented Amateur trainers from Ft. Collins and educated at Rex Carr's. Jackie once won back to back Opens and hung out with Cherylon Loveland during the '80's. A pair of very formidale female field trial trainers.
