Bad news today, another CBR has been diagnosed with DM. A MRI was done. This dog is related to Tiger, I think, by way of a great aunt SEND MONEY TO THE ACC TRUST TO HELP WITH THE DM STUDY.

We, as CBR owners, have to support this study due to the fact some people are still continuing to breed out of this line of dogs. Sure hope the breeder tell the buyers there may be a problem! Until then we don’t know where DM comes from. So send money!!

Billy I was wondering. My puppy is related to Tiger by way of Deck. Deck is my puppies grandfather and Rudy is his great grandfather. Is he in harms way?

Mike your a lawyer. There is no proof where this comes from. That is why we need to study this problem. Here are two facts to chew on: Rudy's sister from a different breeding has DM and Decks sired Tiger. Rudy lived a very long time and Deck's is very old. Rudy and Deck's are somewhat related if you go back far enough.

The problem is bigger than worrying, "Will my dog get DM?"; even if there are no dogs you know for sure were affected with DM in your CBR's immediate pedigree, they all have the same ancestors if you go back far enough. So until the researchers learn more, we are all affected by this and need to contribute for the dogs' future.
Here's hoping the research can answer some questions.

That is terrible news. We still don't know if this condition is genetic or what the heck causes it. I hope the researchers find out fast so we can do something about it. I keep praying my chessies as well as everybody else's don't develop it.

Has there been any young dogs diagnosed with it? What was the youngest? It usually shows up when dogs are older.

Julie, I may be a little misunderstood since what I put down what so short. I have not had the opprotunity to do much research on the subject myself and the only issues I have really had to deal with before are displastic hips or cataracts in young dogs by breeders that didnt disclose info.

I assumed since Billy was dealing with it first hand i could get some enlightenment. Didnt mean to ruffle any feathers

there is a "sticky" right at the top of the page with a discussion on DM. Some of your questions may be answered there.
