I was thinking about the dream pedigree thread, and got to daydreaming on what it would be like if we COULD go back and get some semen from some of the great dogs.
We have the technology now to do that. I think we should avail ourselves of this technology.
I'm looking forward to the day when we can do the same kinds of things with the females.
I've kind of wondered what it would be like to harvest eggs from one of these super duper female and implant embryos for years and years. I wonder how that type of line breeding would pan out? How does it pan out using frozen semen?
This may seem a little odd but I built a pedigree for my dog that went way back (until the dogs on stud list no longer showed up) and found out something strange which I wouldn't have thought possible: my pup is 12% wildwoods fireweed by blood and I thought this kind of line wasn't possible with a female, the contribution from fireweed jasmine was about 10%. Is this just pure chance for females from the far back to carry genes forward or it is commonplace and just not apparent to simpletons like me.
No, this is something that occurs in our breed. You have identified two bitches who were incredible producers. If either of them shows up in tail female (the very bottom line of your pedigree) you are in good shape.
That whole 25% at the bottom of her pedigree is all show, because the maternal grandma was a show dog with no HT or FT blood in her anscestry (maybe they were all meat dogs on the side). Is the tail thing you're talking about because of mitochondrial genetic material that passes without dilution by sire?
