Hi
How far should you be able to trace your dogs lineage back? Just to the Carroll Island fire or further? Boy, do I have a feeling this is a loaded question....... John They don't know english. |

Adrienne is being bad.
It depends on what you are tracing the pedigree back for. Within five generations, most Chessies will have some dogs in common. That's because the gene pool is very small. So tracing a pedigree back to the Stone Age is fun, but not very enlightening, since all the Chessies will be able to trace back through pretty much the same key dogs. If you are looking for practical use of a pedigree (like buying a pup, or choosing a stud dog), then you really want to concentrate on the first three generations, and the qualities of the parents and grandparents. This is the place where your pup's genes are coming from, not that one famous ancestor way back when. Look for parents and grandparents that have the qualities YOU are looking for, and you are in the game. Lisa-can trace Chessie pedigrees 50 generations, but only looks at the first three |
