I am about to graduate college, and I would like to get myself a great chesapeake pup as a graduation gift. I am an avid waterfowl and upland hunter, but I have very limited experiences with training a retriever. So i am trying to make up for the experience I lack with the best pedigree I can find. I graduate on May 3, so I will be looking for a litter on the ground near the end of May. If anyone has an suggestions about finding the best of the best, or about where I can find help training the pup feel free to let me know. All of your advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have a breeding putting out pups on May 26th. Genetics on these dogs is Excellent. I would love my pups to go to hunters, as I am an avid Upland/Waterfowl hunter who requires great dogs to retrieve Chukar in the desert sagebrush canyons and ducks in the Swift Snake river. I was a college grad once, and my chessies went to college with me. I got A's in Hunting and fishing and C's in College. My dogs taught me as much as my education. Chessies are Great Natural hunters and I will own them all my life, they flat out hunt as hard as I do and never give up on me. Call Linda Harger, Meridian Idaho, Fireweedchesapeakes.com, you will find her knowledge useful in your search for the best CBR for you. My dogs come from her breedings and she advised on my pups due in 3 weeks. Mark

Congratulations on graduating, I am sure you deserve the gift you are getting yourself. There are several knowledgable folks on this site, most of them are very quite when it comes to talking about there dogs and their breeding programs. I would look through all the ads on this site and a few others as well. AS RF mentioned Linda Harger is a great source as well as Steve Parker, Bill Burks, Keith Carlson, Wendy Chisolm, Gary Ridout to name a few. Good luck and I hope you find your pup, my only advice to you is be patient and to coin a phrase I am sure you are familar with "Do you homework" and you will get a great pup.

Josh, there are some terrific videos out there for training the Lab and CB breeds. If you get a pup that has a terrific hunting pedigree chances are that you won't have much difficulty training them yourself. You can also do what I did and send your dog to a breeder for a training session. My husband and I have sent both our Lab and CB to training sessions and it has gone really well. Just a thought...
