Lost my young male Chessie. Brilliant young dog and he will be sorely missed. I need a male. I would be interested in an older puppy or a started young dog or perhaps an older dog. What makes this even worse is that I will be hunting the best blind of my life this year. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Sometimes a fellow feels like just giving up when you work so hard to have things the way you 'd like and then boom.

Sorry about your loss. I rescued (3 yrs ago) a chessie and have never been sorry for it. Kent mentioned the ACC site. Also look at the CBRR&R site (Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue). They list adoptions & placements options there as well.
Best of all finding a new friend for life. Charlie

Now that is double rotten news, too bad about your buddy, it is always hard to lose a friend.

I am sure he would rather be hunting with you this year too. I bet he will be out there helping your new buddy if you find one.

I am with Kent, invite another Chessie owner along or (gasp) a lab owner....don't rush a life long choice.

I hunted last year with a rescued springer spaniel because I had to put my best buddy down in March..the springer is a great little guy, chessie in spirit but not much of anything else..

Yep a year without a Chessie sucks, but I couldn't be happier now, glad I waited for the dog I really wanted and needed.

A rescue chessie could be the ticket for you as well.

Good Luck

Jeff

Sorry for your loss, Pugman. It's hard to lose them & the good ones never seem to live long enough. If it's feasible for you to have 2 dogs, maybe adopting a rescue (for the life of the dog, of course) & adding a pup in the future would help. Just glanced through some of those posted on CBRR&R's website & a there are some Chessies with hunting experience or potential hunting dogs. No, they won't replace your best friend, but these dogs need homes & it might be a win-win situation. http://www.cbrrescue.org/viewdog.asp?DOG=1539 - Dharma, 2 year old, female, has hunted

http://www.cbrrescue.org/viewdog.asp?DOG=1485 - Kayla, 8 year old, female, hunting dog

http://www.cbrrescue.org/viewdog.asp?DOG=1489 - Logan, 4 year old, male

http://www.cbrrescue.org/viewdog.asp?DOG=1535 - Shawnee Rose, 4 year old, female

http://www.cbrrescue.org/OtherDogs/viewdog.asp?DOG=2264 - Elsah, 4 1/2 year old, female, 2 seasons hunting experience

Best of luck in finding your new best friend!

Karen

Thanks for the encouragement and the advice. I am finding myself in considerable grief now but the prospects of having a new Chessie seems to help.

Pugman, i lost widgeon 18 weeks ago today! I still have not gotten over it! I forced myself into getting a pup knowing i would not get to have a good hunt behind my dog for a year. It has been the best medicine for me. When i think of my old dog i lay down and the pup comes right over and wont stop licking my face! It will all come full circle. best of luck John

Pugman, what area are you in? Chessies occasionally show up in shelters here in AR--also sometimes you will happen on a "free to good home" ad here. I am sorry for your loss and hope that you will find another brown friend.
