My 8 yr old Chessie has a very sour, almost rancid odor. She dosn't smell in the winter (only normal doggie scent), but in the summer when we start swimming her in the river she gets very smelly. Even when I bathe her she begins to get this oder within a few hours. Her coat is not oily and she's only had two baths this summer. We swim almost every day.
Our vet has no ideas. He says she's in good health otherwise. Her dad developed this problem as he got older too. Any ideas? Other than the body odor problem she is a wonderful, sweet dog. |

You need to rinse her with fresh, clean water after each time shes finished swiming as she probably picking up bacteria from the water that's cultivating itself in her coat and on her skin.
Doing this each time she comes out of the water should eliminate the problem. Kathy Miller Kathy Miller Sandy Oak Chesapeakes |

Thanks Kathy, I will try that. I bet she won't be too thrilled about a hose rise, but anything to make her stop smelling like bad cheese! Deb
