Maybe someone can give me some direction. I know that dogs may have bald areas near scent glands but my Chessie has bald spots on both front leg "elbows". They are not red, scaley or itchy. She is just one year old. The balding started this past month. Any help would be appreciated. She's my best buddy!

Those are elbow callouses. Try this: I don't knwo why it works, but it does. Go to a feed/tack store and buy a tube of Ivermectin horse paste wormer (Equimectrin, Zimectrin are two brands readily available--about $8-10 a tube). Squeeze out a tiny dab, about half the size of a pencil eraser. Rub thoroughly into the callouses every other day for a week or two and they should go away and you should start to see hair growing back in about 2 or 3 weeks.
This is trick I learned from an old houndsman when I was foxhunting. In spring we would take the hounds to the big bench shows. Most of them would have elbow callouses because they lived in concrete yards and the ivermectin trick fixed the callouses right up. |
