Bill My wife manages a Vet's office in Memphis and a ball park price here is 200.00, don't know if your guy is more but as anywhere they seem to charge what the market will bare. Marty

I think this Vet is crazy. Tori had a dog bite and it cost me $200 for some pills, but the worst part was when I took her back and was chared $30 for the Vet to tell me the swelling went down and she looked fine. Time to look for a new Vet. Important stuff I use the HUPenn and don't mind their bills.
I think that I paid $575 this summer to have TWO bitches spayed and some non-malignant tumors removed at the same time. As both bitches were 9 years old that included prerequisite blood panels on each, and one of the bitches had a mammary tumor removed and submitted for biopsy, and the other had a fatty tumor removed. I thought it was quite reasonable. I just called my vet. They charge $160 for dogs under 70 pounds with no blood work & blood work is mandatory on dogs over 6 years old, but she said it will probably go up shortly to around $200 as the cost of anesthetic has gone up. Still very reasonable.
Holly crap Billy and I thought our prices were high at the clinic I work at. Our cost for a spay with preanesthetic bloodwork, laser fee, iv fluids, hosp, anesthetic, pain meds come to ~250-350 depending on the age of the dog. My boss always tells me that you should charge more for a spay because it is a abdomenal surgery but you can't over price yourselfs. People will go elsewheres (like you are thinking). Good luck with the surgery.
