Theo would normally have come into heat mid April..were beginning of June and apart from having been in a testy mood and peeing a lot last month..nothing. A lot of dogs sniffing around but no blood. Is this normal? It would be her second heat.

I've owned a few with very irregular cycles especially the first 24 mos. My Thug had her first heat right at 6 mos., which is the youngest any retriever I've owned has come in season. Then she didn't come in again til she was nearly 2.
Another thing that has happened more than once is the 'college dorm' effect: a bitch coming in season well before she was due because she's kenneled near one in season. I've had this happen both when dogs were away at pros and at home. Often a bitch brought in season early because of proximity to another female in season, has a shorter and less noticeable cycle. In a young dog on her 2nd heat, you could miss it completely. Is it possible Theo had one of those 'heats' when she went south? |

Or if you counting on every 6 months, maybe it won't be what you are thinking. Luna has been going between 7 and 8 months.

The trainer in the South said her and her littermate got really testy for a few days..peed a lot..snapped at a few dogs, but that was about it..no bleeding..and I didnt run her in Maryland because we thought for sure she'd come into heat..oh well..
