My 2 yr old Chessie (female) has a small spot on each hind qtr where the hair/fur has thinned out. I don't remember seeing this occur last year. Is this normal; we've had a very hot spring/summer, especially the past 2-3 weeks.

Go down the page and see my posting about hair loss on both sides. You can see on my picture what my dog looked like. She has totally filled in after her spay. She gets a little thin during her shed, but nothing like where she was. You could ask your vet about the melatonin, it's pretty safe. You could be up against something else so get your vet to check it out including a FULL thyroid panel.
