Widgeon is a 7 year old female and is in great health physically and mentally however i am concerned a little bit about her weight. She exercises regularly hiking, hunting, swimming in a river! (kind of like a tread mill) but seems to be a little heavy. Any suggestions?

Widgeon sees the vet regularly and has had blood work done however i don,t know what the actual tests were. I feed her about a total of six cups of nutra max natural a day and she has been on this food since she was a year old. thanks for your concern john

Most all my female CBRs I've needed to cut back their feed when they got middle aged. My 6.y.o. eats maybe a cup of Innova total per day, split into two feedings. Now, Innova is a very dense, high calorie feed, and this dog is also a very easy keeper (gets fat on air and water). Nutro is a good quality feed but 6 cups sounds like a lot; have you tried cutting her back?

Thanks again for more info, I will try cutting her feed back as i have been giving her only what nutro suggests for that type of food. She may not like this though. hehehe (hard not to spoil this lady) I should mention that she is not huge, but i think carries a little more weight than needed and lacks that nice lean healthy look. She is about 92 lbs. thanks john

Just cut her food back but add in greenbeans. This way she still feel full but cuts back calories. I think 6 cups is way too much too.

I think 6 cups is too much also. It would be fine if she was able to stay at a good weight with it but since she is overweight I would cut her back. I feed my male at 82#, 2 cups twice a day and I feed my 60# female 2 cups also but she only eats probally one of those meals. You might also try changing to the light version of that food and see if you can't get the weight off of her. You might have to change to a food that has less calories in it also.
Good Luck
