Because of our short training season..esp on water, I have thought about trying to do land T and water T at the same time.

T work begins once the dog has been through FF and FTP and basic casting on land. I would then do single T and water T/swim by simultaneously (delaying the training for water by 3-4 days so that the dog would have a chance to understand the different components on land before trying them on water)... This would be done in two different sessions (land morning - first yard work, then marks...then move on to water drills and marks in the evening)..

thoughts on this?

Juli

I don't think it would be too confusing... I think it would be faster than doing first one, and then the other...

by doing the two drills in nearly in tandem,(with land work being slightly more advanced than water work) I would think the dog would more easily transition casting work from land to water...

I will emphasize that the dog would definitely be very strong with baseball casting and wagon wheel work....

Every summer I have from end of May to end of Aug for water work....so I really would like to learn a way to make my summer training as productive as possible...

the dog would have to be the 'right' type also...I know there are some dogs that you could not do this with.

Big question I have is how long do you think it would take you to get a dog through T work both the single and the Double?

I think I would concentrate on getting the double T solid without worrying about the swim-bye. If you really feel you need the swim-bye then get the single T with a run-bye down then go on to the swim-bye. I have gone from the single T to the swim-bye several times but have never tried to do them at the same time. I don't think you would cause confusion but I could see a problem if the dog was not real solid on stopping on a whistle and treading water or finished with water force.

If I were to try this I think I would spend plenty of time on the stop to the back pile and cast in water before asking any overs. Just to ensure compliance to the back pile, another thing to consider is will you be water forcing during the swiw-bye? If you get into trouble you will need to push to back pile. Lot's of possible problems, don't see to many advantages, I think I would rather not have swimbye and be solid in the TT.

If time is a real problem then why don't you think about doing a lining drill to a pile paralell to a levee with bumpers in the water, stopping and casting in to get them, in conjuction with the T, this would instill the concept to take a cast into the water and carry it.

The single T TT Swim bye should only take a month to six weeks at the max and that is not working on it everyday. If the TT is solid the swimbye will only take about 4 or 5 days at most.
