after last hunting season been thinking about an e-collar for my 4 year old female.

specifically having trouble with control when there's actually pheasants running around.

had a couple of embarassing moments last years. once when she took off and flushed about 15 hens. and another time when she took off and flushed a big ol rooster - well out of range. mostly she's fine and stays in range but sometimes she gets hot on scent and won't stop.

is it one of those never too late things. just do proper collar conditioning etc etc?

thanks for info.

NO - it's not too late for cc.....if you go that route - make sure to get with someone who has done it before (successfully I might add). It will go a lot smoother for you and your dog.

have you tried hunting set-ups during training with live birds and remote launcher (or just dizzied pigeons)? It could be your dog just needs more exposure to being 'controlled' (via checkcord) while she is hunting.

I really don't think you need to have outside help. Lardy's CC video is a great tool to have to walk a novice through CC. I've done 2 dogs following the video and got through it just fine. It's nice to have a lifeline though if you run into any problems.

I disagree. I think experienced help is always better than being new and reading how to do it.
I agree it is never to late. But CC an older dog does have some other dificulties. For one a puppy is easier to handle as opposed to an older dog that is stronger. But remember this is just my opinion take it with a grain of salt. You should also know that I do not use an e-collar and not because I don't think it's a great training tool but because I do not trust my ability with an e-collar. I have seen to many people use e-collars to teach when it is suppose to be used to reinforce skills already taught. And I'm afraid I would fall into that trap. So it is better to ask for help from an experienced person.
