What if any help do you give your dog when stretching them out to QAA distances i.e. streamers, multiple staggered bumpers, or even thrown white buckets etc?
Thanks, Dave B. |

White clip wing pigeons wtih shotgun blast (poppers); multiple large white bumpers thrown at the same time; if training alone-multiple white coated stickmen at long key gun; sometimes a combination of the above.

I do everything that you suggested Dave. I use a big white boat bumper. I put streamers on my bumpers. If help out in the field - wave arms - shoot- throw. Then throw multiple staggered bumpers to continue momentum. I try not to handle because it is marking that I'm training on.

Dave B,
Everything Keith and Mike said! Also I add some black streamers depending on lighting conditions. I also do alot of walking singles with white pigeons or bumpers and really your imagination is your only barrier. For example.....in my back fields I sit the dog in front of a ditch...........walk out 150-200 yds..................fire a gun and call the dogs name..........as the crow flys it looks like alot closer. It is lamost like they forget about cover and terrain changes. They run hard because they are running to you...and the first few times they will run at you but eventually they are marking and marking well. You can add any diversion you want......cover early......cover late.......side hills. We also do the same thing with a partner and his dog across rivers.each takes turns throwing and either way you can really stretch them out in short order. You still need to get in your marks with a group for multiples though obviuously! Paul Paul MacKinnon Atlantic Flyway Gundogs Avery/GHG Pro-Staff Zink Calls Field Staff |
