Looking for advice on how long to set up my T and/or TT. My goal is to hunt test. I know that they can run up to at least 100 yds, but not sure if I set up my initial Ts that far or make them shorter and then extend them. None of my training info ever really talks about this.

Probable get several answers on this one, I use two different places on this. I have what I call the mini T for my single T the back pile is about 50 yards or so and the overs are at 25 and I stay on it until the dog is dead solid on it. At the same time in a different field I start teaching a 3 leg pattern blind at 150 to 200 yards on all legs. Then when I go to the Double T it is set up with the back pile at 150 or so and the overs at 75 and 125. I like the last pile close to the back pile, others probable have different distances. I have all my blinds pattern and Dbl T longer than Hunt Test distances, because I like the dogs thinking they still have to go aways when I run a blind at a hunt test. I like them thinking long and for them to be surprised when they get there. Marty |
