My pup is doing well (considering who's training her) on the hold part of the force fetch.
She holds well sitting and on the move. I do note however that she'll sometimes chomp on the bumper when but only when she is sitting. I've used the stick or hands to tap it and she'll stop at that time but later will do it again. I think I am getting close to moving to the next stage but want to be sure she's got the hold down first. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Thanks |

Any updates on this James? I am curious to know if it worked out for you. Is she nervous?

weeeelllll we seemed to get through force fetch fine. i am using 10 minute retriever as my guide to training and she more or less followed right along with what the book suggested would happen.
however, i've been having "trouble" with a slow pickup on marked retrieves, especially shorter ones. she would nose the bumper around a few seconds (sometimes as long as 10 or 15) before picking it up and delivering to hand. on the advice of someone from the CBRs4me board i've gone back to redo the walking and stick fetch. so far she is quicker on the pickup in the backyard drills. remains to be seen if that will translate to field work. hopefully it will. |

I went through this with the dam of this girl here.
Not a big deal. Stick fetch review did help, but if she was slow, she got a "FETCH" right away. If I got a refusal, I would motor out there and grab an ear all the way to the bumper. She is a smart dog. She started waiting until I would start moving toward her, and then pick it up. I didn't get it fixed until after collar fetch. Then "FETCH" nick "FETCH" helped clear it up. PB |

Hopefully my review of walking and stick fetch will solve my main issues. I really don't want to get into e-collar. Prefer the "Amish" approach, although admittedly I'd love to be able to correct her when she's a long way out. So far it's not so bad I want to go to the collar. With luck it will stay that way.
