Hi!
I have this 1 1/2 old male, that has great drive and retrieves well and as for obedience he can do anything short of making a cup of coffee. He has been forced fetched (by me) to what seems to be great success until he is retrieving a long water mark. On his return he mouths the bumper for 3/4 the way back and then holds it like a cigar the rest of the way in ... on the table and in yard work he holds everything and anything perfect..any suggestions to solve this problem would be appreciated Thanks talbot |

Does he do it with a big bumper or a Dokken? Does he do it with a pigeon or duck?
If he just does it with a small bumper, the two inch size, you probably don't have a problem. I see alot of dogs who do that with small bumpers. |

thanks!!!
he does it with the 3" bumpers! I havent tried the dokken yet. he has recently developed chomping on the duck.. again, only at long distances in water. Since I last wrote i went back to the table for a "hold" refresher and also shortned up on some controlled (rope) water marks. It seems to be working. I have talked to some fairly well respected amateur trainers and the recommended an e-collar...any comments??? |

I would go through hold again if I were you. I don't see where an e-collar is going to help with this problem but I am not a pro.
You may want to contact one. |
