HRCH SAND SPRING NORM OF CAROWAY MH WDQ
"NORMAN" competed and passed this past sunday for his HRCH finished title. He competed at Bong state park in Kansville, WI. WISILL Hunting Retriving Club hosted this event. Norman was the only Chessie in the finished class and was the last dog to run. My husband ran him while I was in the gallery and it was so nice to hear the other people in the gallery talk so nicely about "the chessie running". I heard people say they wanted to stick around and watch the only Chessie run, heard them comment on great it was to see his tail never stop wagging while he was swimming out to the blind, how he never moved his body or feet while watching the marks go down that "he only swings his head". We've come along ways at these event's and have I think started having others understand that there is another breed besides labs. When we first started running UKC events when Norman and his trainer/handler came upto the line they always had some smart A** comment to make about here comes "one of those chessies" and go one to dicuss why they didn't like them. By the end they were saying "here comes Norman" again, and boy they had nothing but nice comments to say after he ran and he was the best behaved dog running. He was knowned for his "not breaking" we would hear comments like "we don't have to worry about this dogd breaking" he never moves a muscle. It will be sad not to compete with him in any more events but we got him where we wanted to and now he is our well trained "hunting buddy". Congratulations JoAnn..Norman done good! Always nice to have people 'come around' when it comes to their misconceptions of chessies, and it makes it all the better when it is because of your dog.

You would have to ask Norman's trainer/handler and my husband that question. From what I heard them saying is that they enjoyed the UKC more since it was set up more like hunting seninarios. We mainly got into the hunt test game to run AKC events and get a title on him since more people are into the AKC titles, we then got started in on UKC for some additional titles and we've enjoyed them both. For me they both were nerve racking.... Sand Spring Chesapeakes JoAnn Stancer |
