We held our final trial at the old grounds this weekend.
Not many Peake's around this year. In the Open and Amateur there were only two in the premium. Larry Sarek's Intrepid's Pummel the Panther MH *** (8 all-age points), and John Nichol's Cold Harbor's Flight of Fancy *** (3.5 all-age points) Both are Deck's pups. John scratched Fancy as she is in season. Larry and "Pete" got penciled out of the Open, but were running the AM land blind when I left. Nick Wohlers was running his nice bitch "Tana" in the Qual. (The only Chesapeake) Some people might remember them from the 2000 ACC Specialty. They JAM'd the Derby. Tana and Nick ran a nice trial. I heard only 10 dogs out of 41 did the land marks clean, and she was one of them. Nick said she was very close, but had a hunt on the last bird. They did get a JAM. I will get a picture. This is a very nice bitch. She is a hair away from being QAA. No doubt she will make it. Nick probably won't make it to Susanville this year. That's too bad. Tana is Bailey's Montana Dream**(CH Johnson's Cur-San Tag MH*** x DK's Chase 'N Betsy) I ran my "No Name" bitch Vermilion Brown Sugar AKA "Shug" in the Derby. 44 dogs, 41 labs, 2 Goldens, and my Peake. We had a very nice opening series. Her marking has been spotty in training, so my goal was to just pick up birds without a handle. She did that, and got us an invitation to the water marks. I wasn't thrilled with the job we did in the second series, but we got the poultry with no interference on my part. (The judges weren't thrilled either.) We are done playing, but I was happy just to play. Next trial for us is Susanville. Then it will be hunting season. PB |
