I know it's not a Placing or even a Jam ,but for a dog that was paralized on June 10th last year I think it is quite an accomplishment.
Sassie got through the 387yd water blind at the Down East
Ret.Trial Amateur against 44 very strong competitors .
She was well in the fight but with a strong in your face wind I couldn't get her to respond to the whisle in the last, romping water, pond at 325yds but she worked it out and got the bird .
There were a couple of dogs called back that I felt Sassie had comparible work with ,but who cares she gave her all and both judges loved her intensity, ability and tractability .
I just love her partnership and friendship !!!!!!!!!
Sassie will see ya-all at the specialty !

PS. Home to Canada to see what we can do !

Martin:

Good to here...take your time! I am still training on the lake ice here, today likely the last for freezing nights. Ponds also frozen but should go by this weekend.

Hayyyy Marty give that little girl a pat on the head for me. The ice has gone from Karls farm. Huck went for a swim on Tuesday and Magic just followed him in. I did nothing to encourage both of them to get in the cold water they just went in on there own. The pup liked it so much he stuck his head under the water just to look around. I made sure they were dryed off real good before putting them in their crates . See you when you get home

Martin,

If, you don't mind me asking, how was Sassie paralyzed? I too had a Chessie who was paralyzed during a workout. She was down for 5 days then started wobbling along again. She never fully recovered but, enjoyed her early retirement to the fullest just being loved by and loving everyone who ever met her.

HI CBRKAIE !
Sassie was paralized while going for the second bird in a triple in her first amateur last June .
Fortunately the vet we took her to gave her a heavy steroid Dextrametrazone and morphine .
We almost lost her to shock that night but took her to Ont. Vet. College the next day and two days later the word was FCEM (firbrocartilageous embolic myelopathy). This a rupture of the small blood vessels around the spine which cuts off the signal from the brain to the rear end . It is liken to a heart attack
in the heart or a stoke in the brain . They say that it is not uncommon in young athletic dogs.
Also it is repairable with rest and long slow rehab . But do not over extend the dog or rush the rehab.
If you wish to call me I will explain what I did .(705-734-2040)
