Hey Billy is there any reason why the show specialty can't hold a field trial in conjunction with the WD/WDX/WDQ? Maybe they can do a Derby/Qual?

I have heard ACC Field Trial will be in Montana September 2008 pending ACC and AKC approval.

The club has an all breed trial in Cal. They could have a D/Q but I think it would have to be all breed. What really would be nice if the show and the trial were in the same area, the same week. Anyway how many show people could compete on an all breed "Q" level.

Still looking for the ACC speciality
trial dates.

There is no written "rule" that a breed club can not have more than one FT speciality but it has been the "policy" of AKC to only approve 1/year that awards chanpionship points.
Many years ago there was AKC appoval for an additional minor stakes speciality but the ACC was not interested.

In 1986 in California we had the field trial specialty, breed & obedience specialty, and WD/WDX/WDQ all within 10 days of each other and all in California. Basically all the same people worked to put on all the events and by the WD/X/Q we were all ready to kill each other, and that included spouses! We all agreed that we'd never do it again, and always bring this up when someone else thinks it is a great idea. It is a great idea, actually, but in theory only as there are just not enough people to pull it off as it's way too much work!

Just my two cents worth!!

My husband and I were among the workers at the 1986 ACC FT/Show Specialty extravaganza! I have to agree with Kathy that everyone got tired, cranky and very testy at the end of the trail!

It will be in the Charlo, Montana, area in/near mid-September. The chairs--Leigh and Rich Larsen--have been holding off on the exact dates until a new club in the area (Mission Valley Retriever Club) settles on their dates. They want to have the trial between two others in the general area. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Has anyone figured out the dates to the ACC trial yet? Also any news on the all breed club trials between the ACC trial? 3000 miles is a long way to go and I would like to start thinking about the trip!

I am waiting for the informatin as well, I have already got my sites set on going this year. Last year it was only about 7 hours from here but clients dogs and family got in the way.

This year I am going come hell or highwater, so I would really like to find out the dates myself.

If they have it in Montana it is really going to be hard to have an all breed trial before and after. It's going to be real hard for me to go 3000 miles just to run two trials! I hope they put a little more thought into the process for the people from the East coast!!

Yeah, but nothing like W. Montana in Sept. Just head up to Lolo Pass from Missoula into Idaho and take in all the splendor like Lewis & Clark once did. The ride is worth it just for the fresh air, mountains and great country.

Keith tell me more about the sights I could be missing if I don't go.

Billy keep in mind 2009 it is in Maine so the California people also have to truck on east.

I sure like those chessies from the West. Their owners are okay too.

And from what I hear all the time from Sally Ann in Maine about those trials (and Canada too), there are many, many great places to visit in the East in the fall. Fresh lobster and clams too! I had an old friend from the East ship in live lobsters and fresh clams from Mass. last Thanksgiving and I was amazed how good they tasted. A real nice treat.

Mike, too many places to list but well worth the trip. Especially if you don't have too rush.

Been to Montana and granted it is excellent! Saw the big hole in the ground -- copper mine. But would like to run 3 trials in one week. Takes 3 days to get there, run an all breed Friday to Sunday, then the ACC trial in the middle of the week and an all breed that weekend then go home.

The first road trip was to Truckee, Cal in the 80's and we, myself, Dicky Milton and my father, drove stright through. About 52 hours and averaged 50 miles per hour. Since that time I have made several trips to the western states to run the ACC trials. The first time I put my foot in the other ocean was at a Nat Am. held near Portland. Another Nat Am. I saw the big lake in Nevada. We drove the motor home. Anyway it is real nice country, but it is better to get to run a few all breed trials while risking you life going up the road to McCall Idaho. One time we tried to get a room at a Motel in Montana that looked just like the Bates Motel!

Why Montanna? is it being held their because a club is hosting or is it a Time Zone situation. It has been a long time since I have been in that part of the country. Went home for Thanksgiving with an old girl friend to Butte and it was a great time the area was outstanding couldn't say much for the meal however her Momma couldn't cook and neither could she but she had other attributes that I was intrested in at the time.

Who needs a motel room when you have a sleeping bag and a tent? I still prefer camping in the mountains to all that noise elsewhere.
