Steve,

Can you post a photo of Georgia? Ribbons, trophy, et al. If not, send me the photo and I will do it for you.

Georgia ran a great trial. The blinds were demanding. A tough little keyhole "land" blind where the dogs had to angle across a creek (which broke their momentum), and then hold their line instead of veering off to the left (which most dogs did). I think only 3 or 4 dogs managed to get the keyhole. The water blind was tricky too: entry into the water off a steep bank, across as small point, a swim and then a fat point where the dogs had to run 30 yards or so before re-entering, if the dogs got to the left of the line they could easily be out of sight and wind up on the bank to the left. After re-entering the water there was a 40 yard swim with the channel swinging around to the left so that a dog not responding to an "over" or holding its line on a "back" could easily get out of sight behind the bank and be lost. The marks were not as difficult in some ways, but they had a lot of terrain and stream meanders that affected the dogs' lines to the birds. I think only 2 dogs held their line in front of the long mark in the 4th series (Georgia was one). This was the 3rd Qual win for the Lab that got 1st, so being edged out by him was nothing to be ashamed about. At least he has to run with the big boys now, so we won't have to put up with him any more.

I thought that you were only allowed to "WIN" 2 Q's before you were out? How did he get to win 3?

The first place dog ran very well and I thought was the clear cut winner. @nd is what I would pick right now if I got to pick. Perfect. Although she is coming well a little more time in the Q is in order.

He won the week end before so as this trial was already closed he could run. There have been quite a few 3 Q winners and maybe even a 5 Q winner due to a tripple derby Q in Texas. You could win 6 at most I think.

Steve is right. If entries have closed when you get your second win, you can run the Q you have already entered. If the entries haven't yet closed, you must scratch and either run with the big boys or stay home.

Actually, I was there when that dog got 5 Q wins, although it was in Louisiana (on the infamous New Orleans Spillway), not Texas. They had a full trial on succeeding weekends and three staggered D-Q's during the intervening week. Man it was tough on the dogs. Danny was so high he was a basket case by the last trial (and so was I). Unfortunately the dog that did all the winning was struck by a car and killed not too long afterwards, so we will never know what he might have been able to do in the big time.
