My 5 month old puppy has been wonderful. The only problem I have is that he doesn't stop a urinate in the house, but he will walk and leave a trail throuhgout the house. Is this something he can help or should I show my displeasure?

Have him checked for a bladder infection as this is usually a sign of one, and needs to be treated with antiobiotics.

It could also be something called submissive peeing, but usually it happens when the pup feels intimidated by the human and pees involuntarily, i.e. they can't help it. If there is nothing to cause the pup to run off leaking urine, I'm inclined to think it's a bladder infection.

Either way it sounds like he can't help it.

I have a 6 mos old male and he will ocasionally due this as well. I think he knows he is not supposed to pee in the house or my office but gets busy playing and just thinks he can't hold it, then he pees as he runs about before going to the door. These incidents have become less frequent as he gets older.

A trip to the vet is great idea to insure you are not correcting him for something he can't help I.E. Bladder infection. If all is clear
I would let him know that this is not an acceptable behavior in the house and watch him at all times while indoors until this stops.

Hi,

Not to discount the others concerns but I have another take on a 5 month old pup who does this.

By now a puppy should be fully house broken. Don't make the same mistake I did with my boy. Teach your dog to pee when you say it's OK ! Not every time they think it is OK ! Keep him/her in check by praising them when they pee perfectly for you. Males who piss on everything are a pain in the butt.

It doesn't take a huge amount of training either and soon you will use your command," go pottie et al" and your dog will do so on command. To start whenever you get your pup out of it's crate take them outside to an acceptable spot and give the command. If you have to carry them so they don't leak do so.

My dog pees on everything and it's my fault as I did not take control until to late. However he is better than in the past.

If the problem isn't medical it will get worse as the dog gets older, marking it's territory will also become an issue. Soon you will see rusted spots on any metal things around the house at the ground, and tire rims too !

Keep the little bugger on empty as often as possible and praise a lot when they do good.

Most of all enjoy the little doggie as they soon get big and want to take over LOL.

Best of luck to you !
