I have to get it off my chest...and maybe find an answer...
WHY is there no proof of indentification involved in submitting cheek swabs for the DM test? (IOW, you COULD submit a COMPLETELY different dog in place of one you suspected of being A/A) or did I not catch something in the testing paperwork that indicates otherwise? Juli |

You could.
But before Microchips you could also have Xrays of a competely different dog then one you think had bad hips. |

Juli,
Sure, you could submit another dog's swab. The difference is that anyone can check their pup's DM status. If it wasn't what was expected, there would be some explaining to do. Since Excellents can produce dysplastic offspring (and the reverse), there is a lot less room to hide when it comes to genetic tests. Claire |

When I signed up my dogs for the test, I was at work and didn't have their PID information, so didn't fill it in. I guess that's why Gopher's DM result doesn't automatically pull all her other OFA test results into the DM search results file. But when I go into her page, all the results are there, including the DM. Weird glitch in the OFA program, I guess.

Juli, An unethical person could sunstitute a wringer for just about any test. OFA x-rays for instance. The form asks for a PID#, but I have never had anyone check to make sure the number I put down is correct. Or if the dog being x-rayed is even chipped or tattoed. |

OFA just started a program where dogs' PID can be verified by the vet. The vet checks the tattoo or scans the dog, then signs the form stating they did so. Dogs with this check have VPI appended to their names, instead of PI or NOPI, which are the other 2 categories. yeah, you can slip your vet an extra $50, and if they are unethical, they will sign the form anyway. But there is less room for ringers with the VPI program. Lisa |
