My husband pointed out today, as we were leaving the vet once again, that our 8-month-old Willow has had some sort of injury for about half her life. Don't even ask how far behind we are in her training.
Here is her list, so far: Back leg injury: 2 months kennel rest and more than a month of slowly getting back into work (just leash walking). Front leg injury from agility class, which we took for the socialization experience. Three weeks off. Stomach ailment (technically not an injury). Must have found and eaten something in the backyard that she should not have. One week off. Pad injury. Two weeks off, still healing actually. Now today she is at the vet because she got a piece of grass up her nose while training (5 minutes into the session) - just two days after returning to work from the pad injury. The vet is going to sedate her a little to get a better look around. Anyone else have an accident prone dog?!!? |

Nope no accident prone dogs here but when they do have accidents they really have them.
Norman had a tplo on one leg, and Nellie jumped off my house when it was being built and broke her hip and had surgery on that. Other than that they have been healthy. I think she should be due for some good luck now so she can enjoy being a young adult and get out there and train and hunt and do the fun stuff. Sending well wishes her way (and yours). Tomahawk has broken off one canine tooth, split an incisor lengthwise, split a toe nail two hunting seasons in a row, exposing the meat and requiring removal of the nails, was bee stung above an eye, resulting in a look like he had a tennis ball on his head, had a 4" grass awn up a nostril requiring surgery to remove it, has regular bouts of pancreatitis, and yesterday he was diagnosed with Masticatory Myopathy...Sigh.

The vet was able to find and remove the grass seed from Willow's nose yesterday while she was under sedation. It was about two inches long. I saw it in her nose as soon as she started sneezing, but just when I was able to steady her head and to try to grab it, she sucked it up further during another sneeze. So we headed straight for the vet.
JoAnn and Gigi - yikes, I guess it could be worse! I think Tomahawk has her beat. I looked up masticatory myopathy and I still don't know what it is! Pray for Willow to be injury free for a while, as she starts agility classes again next week! Valerie |
