Hi All
I am reluctant to write this and this one hurts. I just got word from my Vet (2 weeks ago) that my beloved Chow-Chow (Ben) has cancer. He has 6 months maybe 1 year, here come the tears.
I found him 10 years ago in the streets of Baltimore, Md. He had mange, mites, and fleas. 60% of his hair was gone and he was 29 lbs. His fur was the color of a deer and had the texture of straw. I did not know what kind of dog he was with this purple tongue. 4 months after I had him all his fur fell out. Then this chocolate lion's mane came in. Then and only then I found out that he was a Chow-Chow. He bit me the 2nd week I had him. I just walked away, then to the Doc. Thank God the first thing that I did after I found him was to get all his shots. He was beside himself, he thought that I was going to beat him. We have been through a lot together.
AFTER he passes, more tears. I would like to get a CBR. I have always wanted one, for I do a lot of duck hunting. Will it make much difference if I get a 1 to 2 year old rescue dog? Or for a hunting/Lap dog does one need a puppy to start with? What are your thoughts?
Thanks
John

John,

That was touching. Sorry to hear about Ben.

I think that it is good that you are thinking about a rescue dog. Many dogs go through rescue. I'm sure that one is bound to have what you are looking for in a hunting partner. While I don't have any experience in this area, I have to believe that you don't have to have a dog from a puppy to train it for hunting. I guess that depends a lot on the dog, your standard, and your ability to train. Sounds like you are patient enough.

Check out some of the rescue websites, and get in contact with some people. They can probably help you more than I could.

Good luck. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi Paul
Thank you. I have looked into rescue's and have found a lot of things that I kind'a knew. There are 10's if not hundreds of exactly what I am looking for !! That there are people that get a 10 LB puppy in March and in September they have a 80 LB puppy and don't have a clue what to do. So they just give it away or worse. Or the poor guy who had unforeseen circumstance.
I had a lab for 14 years and a coffee table that was cleared off.( you know "BASEBALL BAT TAIL") I have noticed that some tails on CBRs are kinda curly. Is the stuff on top of you coffee table safe Razz?

Nothing is safe depending on the dog. Their tails are all different too.

They are alot of fun though.

I've had a couple that could stand UNDER the table and stir your coffee with that curled tail! Eek

Welcome. Hope you find the dog you are looking for.

John,

I was in the same position you are in. Buy a puppy or get a rescue dog. I chose the later and am very happy with the outcome. I check the recuse webpages every day to see what new dogs are listed. I guess I just feel for all the dogs that have not been treated or given a fair chance. Good Luck Smile
