is there a way to test litters for DM?

just curious....wonder if something like this would play a roll in breedings that were 'Carrier' to 'Carrier'....and how a person would go about advertising and/or selling pups that were the result of carrier to carrier breeding - considering some of the pups could be A/A...

Yes, you can test a litter. Since it is a cheek swab, it is much easier than the blood sample based tests. Much easier to get a cheek swab from a wiggly puppy than a blood sample!

However, you have to be REALLY careful about cross-contamination with pups. They would have to be separated from each other for at least an hour, no chew hooves, etc. This is the downside of cheek swab tests.

Juli,

I already asked this question to the gal at OFA who handles the test requests. You just need to identify each puppy in someway so you can match up results to the puppy the DNA came from. You could chip the pups you want to test as one way. Then you would fill in the chip number as their name. I have a litter right now by my N/N bitch which is why I asked. But you do NOT have to use chips-I was told anything that will allow you to identify the puppy with the DNA result.

Still wondering why the carrier results though were taken out of the OFA database.
