Widgeon was 9 yrs old and was suddenly bleeding internally. She was in the hospital for 8 days and returned to us with high hopes. She was extremely week and would still not eat. I told the vet what was going on and i went to get her meds to help her with her stomach. I came home to inject her and found she wouldnt get up. I helped her up and her head fell back and died in my arms.

She was a smiler, great bird hunter and a part of the family! Damned i want her back!!
I just thought this was the best place to post this info. I'm just crushed!! thanks john

Very sorry for your loss. That big Ches. smile is one of my very favorite things in life. At least your girl died at home in your arms instead of by herself at the vet's, though I know it's no consolation right now.
I hope the hurt fades soon but memory of that smile remain.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your friend. Their lives are far too short.

I believe our dogs hold a special place in heaven. You will be with her again one day.

John,

It was truly great speaking with you earlier today. I am however sincerely sorry for your loss and the associated circumstances in which we met. I'm frequently reminded of a quote by George Graham, that brings some solace.

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog."

Best of luck, John.

So sorry. Nothing helps much right now, but I hope in time you'll find some small comfort in the fact that you did bring her home, and that she hung on until you returned home and that you were with her.

It's never easy, especially when it's unexpected! I'm glad you were with her though, I think it's a comfort to them-in time the pain will lessen and the thoughts will be of the great times together-revel in the joy she brought to your life. Our deepest sympathies go out to you in you loss.
