I spent the weekend at a small lake in N CA with my family and Teal the little guy in the pic. (14 weeks) Anyway, got his feet in the water, tossed the bumper 5ft out, BOOM he brings it back drops it at my feet and sits looking out at the water. I then go 10ft ,15,20,25 and then 50. NO Problems, does the same thing every single time and wont release until i tell him! So i say lets have some fun here! You got it blind retreives! He got every one! Is this normal for a 14 week pup? First time in the water? Except for a little fun in the house there has been no real training except for the normal puppy training. In fact people were watching this and full grown black labs who hunt were not as on top as this little guy i just got. I am not trying to brag at all here, but, i was proud and i know there is a long way to go. How many people have seen this before? thanks John

Sorry j...not to burst your bubble but ..now I am guessing here so take it easy on me....You might not understand what a blind retrieve is ..

Hey but I've been wrong before....

You say the dog drops the bumper at your feet and then "does the same thing every single time and won't release until I tell him !"

You know...I believe you . However I've never seen this before in my life from a first time 14 week pup.

Amazing !

You go j

Kent, I truly could not beleive it myself! My version of a blind retrieve was toss the bumper out in the water where he could not see it. I would then send him out and point to the area and he would find the bumper and bring it back. However he did not always find the bumper on his own. (i helped a little sometimes) His worse behavior was that when he came out of the water he would sometimes hold on to the bumper and circle around me. Maybe because of some of the other dogs around. I would be more than happy to let you see this since you are in SJ and im in foster city. John

ps If i heard this i would not believe it either. LOL i do have about 30 witnesses

Remember don't pull the bumper from him. Praise and gently take it from him or let him drop it. Puppies are FC before you start training them.

Hey j....heck you are pretty close. Didn't even look where you hail from .

Well.... me not being there and the fact I don't consider myself an expert trainer , sounds like you got yourself a great start there. Good !

Mike you crack me up .........

j....perhaps we can get some training in some time. For now take it slow with your pup and enjoy it as soon it will be grown and running the outfit. I've got live flyers when you and your pup are ready j.

Fantastic !
