I have been keeping a close eye on my pups weight to see how big she is going to get since she was the runt and it was fun to watch her grow up.
When do these dogs stop growing?
Here are her weights.
7 weeks 9.8 lbs
10 weeks 16.8 lbs
14 weeks 27 lbs
19 weeks 40 lbs
26 weeks 55lbs
32 weeks 62 lbs

Here is a pic of her at 8 months old. I think she is about 58 lbs in this pic.
How much begger do you think she will get?

jtowne- my older dog was a runt. In fact when I first got him someone told me he looked sickly and maybe I should put him down. He ended up weighing between 95 and 98 lbs. He is a big chessie. Cottage cheese as a puppy. He is not easy to pul into a boat and he shakes off a ton of water. I'm hoping to get down your way in Jan to train with Tim.

I don't mean to sound flip, but she will be as big as she gets whenever she finishes growing! There is no way to determine when she will stop growing or how much more she will grow. I've had a couple of my bitches actually grow in height up to 3 years old or more!

Nick,
If you want to start an over/under pool I'll take 76 lbs. (you cann't play since you control the food).
I pick that # as a pure guess. The staff at my vet had a pool when I was bringing in Tanner for puppy shots since he was growing so fast. Between 12 & 14 months he seems to have leveled off at 88, at least for now.

Tim if I was a guessing man I would guesse that too. She eats good sometimes. I give her 1 milk bone in the morning and about 4 cups of food in the p.m. Sometimes she will eat it all sometimes she doesnt. She will wait for her father Thor to finish eating and go over to his bowl or sometimes she will take some of his food while he is eating. After his bowl is empty then she will work on her bowl. Thor just gives me a look like are you serious?

But she gets plenty of exercise. 15 min of obediance and 3 marks in the a.m. She gets to run around the field with her father and 2 labs in the p.m. She was swimming alot out back but now the water has had some skin ice on it I dont want her just swimming around for the heck of it.

That would be my guess too.

I had people tell me the same thing about my male when he was a pup. He was the runt of the litter and the breeder thought he would end up around 85lbs. He rarely gets to be over 72 and weighed in at 64lbs the other day after four days of hard hunting.

He is free fed and maybe eats 3 cups a day. During periods of heavy hunting (friends in town or we are out of town) I try my best to entice him to eat more but he just wont turn the hunt switch off long enough to eat a good meal.

If the "2x4-month-weight" theory happens to be correct this time, Tim shouldn't be far off.

I've started trying to remember to track it with the last two pups. Believe it was nearly dead on with Blue, and the coyote was 36lbs at 4-months and 66lbs at 13-months, so it probably won't be far off for him, either...

(Kinda surprising to me when most any "rule of thumb" proves correct.)

Is Gracie getting darker or is it my computer? She is really pretty Nick.

If I was a gambler, I would bet 75# which is the best weight for all my females. Now, that doesn't mean they all weigh 75# LOL

Deuce wasn't what I would consider the runt of the litter but he was the most laid back of the group. At 8 weeks he weighed 8 lbs, at 12 weeks he weighed 16 lbs. At 15 weeks he weighed 25lbs. He continued to add 2 to 3 lbs a week until at about 7 months he reached 60 lbs. He then slowed down considerably. On january 6th he will be 1 yr old and will tilt the scales at an even 70 lbs. He eats when he is hungry usually about 4 cups a day.....he's still a very laid back dog and looking forward to his birthday party.....

Just brought the coyote back from his second annual physical, and he's still 66lbs at 24 1/2 months. Runt.

jtowne, from what I gather the answer is YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL IT HAPPENS. Only had one bitch and she came into heat when she was 10 months old. Friends have had them come in as early as 6 months and one buddy had a bitch come in at 18 months.

I just had my male weigh in at 68lbs, six years old. My pup weighed in at 29lbs at 12 weeks.

Intersting stuff..I doubt my chessie Drake will follow the 4 month rule. He was 41 lbs at 4 months and is already 78 pounds at 36 weeks. He has a lot of filling out to do still. Its definatly fun watching them grow!

Hate to say it but I like my chessy's big. Bella's our little girl at 77#'s and then there is Roxy, she weighs in at a wopping 90#'s. I know that is not show quality but all we do with them is hunt them and love them. Razz
