I plan on getting a dog next spring and was wondering what chessie breeders were in/around New York State that people could recommend. I will be using the dog for hunting. I have spent the last two years talking to chessie owners and researching the breed, so I have done my homework, and do know what I'm getting myself into.

I wouldn't limit yourself just to central NY because you're lucky enough to be just a few hours from several good ones--Adrienne Bordo of Beartown Chesapeakes just north of you in Canada breeds some good ones; Wendy Levant in Maine (she's got a litter on the puppy ads now) does 1 or 2 nice breedings a year; Johanna & Mike Coutu in RI also have occasional nice litters. In other words you might not find what you want right in your backyard but you shouldn't have to go far to get what you want.

I've heard about Beartown, and know one guy who's got one of their dogs. I don't mind travelling out of state. Has anyone heard anything about Rockrun Chesapeakes at all?

There is Silvercreek in New Jersey, Westwind in Maine and Colonial in Rhode Island. Plenty to look at.
