Hi all!
Have a question about how you feel about breeding Chesapeakes without testing the working capacitites of the dogs to be bred? Is it acceptable and completely alright or not? |

As the old expression says the proof is in the pudding! But with that said "the proof" doesn't always have to come in the form of a title. Real life/real time wittness of performance (or lack of it) in the blind/field can't be mistaken by the experienced eye.

The performance of a potential parent's progeny might be more telling. The two best working Chessies I've hunted over (and a number of said-to-be-greats, I didn't see work) were half siblings sired by a Tiger's Cub son that I'm pretty sure was never hunted, tested or trialed. And paper genetics aside, there sure seems some difference between posessing genetic potential and actually passing it on.
