Has anyone received results of the new DM test? If so, how long did it take after you mailed the materials to MO?

I'm anxiously waiting to swab my young bitch when I see her this weekend.

I requested the kit on the evening of July 25; received Aug. 1; and submitted today (August 9) for delivery Aug. 11 or 12.

Lisa, the purple did turn whitish/lavender for me. I tried to be gentle with the FTA paper, but I think that it got a little beat up in one spot.

Tim, I haven't received my results for a sample submitted before the '07 specialty FT. However, I did get a PM from Liz Hansen at the Univ. of MO today asking about a request that I submitted for DM results. It sounds as though my dog isn't in their database. She had searched on my name in the list of owners but didn't know even the breed that I have. I replied to her tonight. I'll let you know what I find out.

Nick, When I ordered the DM test from OFA I got a link to check the status of my order. I checked that link twice each day this week, this afternoon was the first the result was reported on my order status. I have not gotten actual paper certificate yet nor email from OFA. The status page did note OFA received the sample 8/04 and processed 8/07.

I cant find my link. Was it emailed to you or was it in your packet from OFA?

You are not alone. Ofa had the link up when I was going through the process of ordering the kit. It was on the bottom of the "PRINT this page for your records." If you printed the page for your records you should have it.
starts out like this
http://www.offa.org/orderstatus.html?email= and continues on
following the equals sign was my email address and more id leters with numbers.

I guesse Ill be first.

I called into OFA and the DR. looked up my file and said both Thor and Gracie are both. A/A.

So now what?

"Thor and Gracie are both A/A. So now what?"
Is A/A affected? If so, it is not the end, enjoy them, maybe they will come down with severe symptoms later in life, maybe not. Perhaps medicine will be found to help dogs afflicted with dm in the future. My bitch that had DM years ago was great, I had 10 fantastic no problem years with her and then a few years with her needing special care. She enriched my life, wouldn't trade those days.
If Thor is affected, when you use Thor at Stud it should be to a dm clear bitch so that the possibility of affected DM is not passed on. All of Thor's offspring would be carriers if that is how you stud him (to only clear). then the dm carriers could be bred to clears and the litter might have carriers and clears. If you plan to breed Gracie when she is older you should look for a DM clear stud again with the same reasoning to eventually get the dm clear. This test is to help identify where DM lies to try to breed wisely, the goal is eventually getting DM completely out of the breed with out losing other valuable traits.

From what I've read of them, I'd think Thor and Gracie prime examples of what's been under discussion here lately: valuable "outside" blood that shouldn't be "thrown out with the bath water". And that, through the blessing of DNA testing, may now be safely kept in the gene pool.

He said that A/A is at risk. They dont want to use the word affected to scare people.

That is what I plan on doing. Breeding Thor to clear bitchs. He has all the rest of his clearances, some titles and is a good dog.

When it is time to breed gracie after she gets some titles and her clearances I will carefully pick out a clear stud for her too.

What "environmental factors" specifically may contribute?
